The Miyako Freshwater Crab is a small freshwater crab living in a few watery places around Miyakojima. Crabs of this group spend their whole lives in streams and damp habitats without going to the sea. Because it is vulnerable to changes in the island's water environment and has a narrow range, it is protected as a Natural Monument.
