The Oriental stork is a large white bird with black flight feathers and long red legs, catching loaches and fish in paddies and wetlands. Once widespread in Japan, wild birds disappeared in the Showa era and were later reintroduced to the wild from captive-bred stock. It is a Special Natural Monument.
