The Hokuriku Salamander is a small salamander found only in hilly areas around Ishikawa Prefecture, endemic to the Hokuriku region. It lays egg sacs in pools and wetlands in early spring and otherwise lives under leaf litter in woodland. Development of satoyama land has reduced its numbers, and its habitat is a Natural Monument.
