Hibuna are red-colored crucian carp found in Hokkaido waters. A 2022 genetic study showed that Hibuna from Lake Harutori and other sampled waters originated through hybridization between native clonal crucian carp and introduced goldfish. Lake Harutori in Kushiro and Lake Tokotan in Akkeshi are designated Natural Monument habitats.
