About the Banded Ground Gecko (Amami ground gecko)

The Banded Ground Gecko, Goniurosaurus splendens, is an eyelid gecko endemic to Tokunoshima in the Amami Islands. Its dark body bears pink transverse bands. It is nocturnal and feeds on insects on the forest floor. Habitat degradation and collection for trade threaten its populations, and it is designated a Kagoshima prefectural Natural Monument.
