About the Yanbaru Long-armed Scarab

The Yanbaru long-armed scarab is one of Japan's largest beetles, with exceptionally long forelegs in males, and is found only in northern Okinawa Island's Yanbaru forests. Its larvae feed on decayed organic material accumulated inside hollows of old trees. Adults are active mainly in late summer and early autumn. It depends on natural forest containing large hollow trees and is designated a Natural Monument.
