About the Ogasawara Cicada

The Ogasawara Cicada is endemic to the Ogasawara Islands and occurs on Anijima and Ototojima as well as Chichijima and Hahajima. It clings to forest trees and sucks sap, and its calls are heard mainly from late summer into autumn. Predation by introduced green anoles and other alien species has greatly reduced populations on Chichijima and Hahajima. As a valuable endemic insect of Ogasawara, it is a national Natural Monument.
