About the Red-headed Wood Pigeon

The red-headed wood pigeon is a large pigeon with a purplish-red tinge on the head, an endemic subspecies of the Ogasawara Islands. It lives in island forest, feeding on fruit. Its numbers are very small and it has been threatened by introduced animals such as cats, so it is a Natural Monument with ongoing conservation work.
