About the Ogasawara Holly Blue

The Ogasawara holly blue is a small lycaenid butterfly formerly recorded on Hahajima and several other Ogasawara islands, with bluish upper wings. Its larvae feed on island plants. It declined severely under pressures including introduced green anoles and habitat changes. It is designated a Natural Monument. Wild individuals have not been confirmed since June 2018, and its captive population died out in August 2020; surveys and preparations for conservation continue.
