Loomis's hairstreak is a small lycaenid butterfly with bluish upper wings, living in damp evergreen broadleaf forests in warmer regions. Its caterpillars feed on young leaves of evergreen oaks, and adults flutter slowly inside the woods. A habitat in Kasugano-cho, Nara City, Nara Prefecture, is a national Natural Monument; the butterfly survives only where rich evergreen forest remains.
