The Oakleaf Butterfly is a large nymphalid that looks just like a dead leaf with its wings closed, while the upper wing surfaces are vivid blue and orange. In Japan it occurs in the Nansei Islands and is a classic example of camouflage. In Okinawa Prefecture, the species itself is designated a prefectural Natural Monument without a specified locality.
