The spectacled guillemot is an auk with dark summer plumage, distinctive white patches around its eyes, red feet and a red mouth lining. It lives on rocky coasts, nests in rock crevices and dives for fish. In Japan, it breeds at sites in Hokkaido, including islands and the Shiretoko Peninsula, and in parts of Aomori. Teuri Island's seabird breeding ground is a Natural Monument.
