Echinoderms include starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and sea lilies. Echinoderms and other designated biological groups in selected coastal areas of Uwajima and Ainan are protected under the prefectural Natural Monument designation for the Uwa Sea's special marine resources. The designation does not cover all marine resources throughout the Uwa Sea; some commercially harvested organisms are excluded.
