About the Arran Brown (Kumomabenihikage)

The Arran brown has dark brown wings with orange-red bands and eyespots. In Japan it occurs in the mountains of central Honshu and the Daisetsu mountain range of Hokkaido, inhabiting grasslands and openings in birch woodland. Adults appear in summer. Nagano designates the butterfly itself as a prefectural Natural Monument without specifying particular habitats.
