A sea bream with a grayish-black body that lives on coastal reefs and in estuaries. It is omnivorous, eating shellfish, crabs, seaweed and more. Off Kido in Kamogawa, Chiba, the schools of black sea bream living in these waters were designated a Chiba Prefecture Natural Monument as "Myojin-no-Tai" in 1935, to protect them and allow people to watch them.
