About the Japanese Raccoon Dog
The Japanese Raccoon Dog is an omnivorous canid with dark markings around the eyes, and appears often in folktales, making it familiar to Japanese people. It is widespread across Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. On Mukoujima in Yamaguchi, the habitat of raccoon dogs living on the island is designated a Natural Monument.
