The Okinawa Rail is a nearly flightless bird living only in the Yanbaru forests of northern Okinawa Island, with a red bill and legs and white barring on a dark body. Described as a new species in 1981, it has declined because of introduced mongooses and road accidents, and it is a Natural Monument.
